Directory Submission Strategies For Your AdSense Site
One of the best methods to get more traffic is with inbound links. One way to build inbound links to your website is by submitting your AdSense site information to the web directories. Website directories are directories that focus on compiling links to other websites and then categorizing them. There are many web directories on the Internet that will allow you to submit your AdSense site information.
Since there are so many web directories on the Internet, you need to spend most of your time submitting your AdSense site information manually. Alternatively, you can hire someone to do it for you. There are companies that offer web directory submission service at a very reasonable rate.
You Need A Good Plan
Before you start submitting your AdSense site to one of these web directories, you need to formulate a good plan in order to achieve best results. You should consider the following before you begin your submission:
You should study each directory and determine which category that is best fit your domain/sites. You can write a concise, accurate description of your AdSense site after careful research of your site’s category.
You need to procure a best description for your AdSense site in each category. You can mention your unique selling proposition in your AdSense site’s description. Please make sure there are no repeat keywords on the description.
You can suggest a new category to the owner of directory if you couldn’t find your desired specific category.
You may also use the paid or premium listings of a directory to get your AdSense site listed quickly. Some of the search engines measure link popularity in the quickness your site appears in a given high - pr directory.
You should verify your site manually after each submission. If your site is not listed in the given amount of time, you can resubmit it to the directory after 4 weeks.
You should keep track of your submissions dates, categories, descriptions, titles and so on.
You should always submit your domain name instead of a page.

Increase Google Adsense Income with Simple but Effective Tweaks
As an experienced Adsense publisher, you know tons of Adsense Optimization tricks that will yeild maximum advertising revenue.
To quickly recap, you know by heart that wide rectangles perform better than banner formats, that Google Ad colors should blend with page background color, that section targeting serves more relevant ads, that border-less Ads convert best, that split testing helps you shortlist the best ad formats, that Google CSE is much better than Adsense for Search.. the list goes on and on.
But what’s the next step when you have experimented with all these Adsense tweaks but the CTRs and eCPM figures are stationary or aren’t moving north as you would like them to? Well, the simple solution is – some more optimization.
1. Turn Low Performing Units into Image Only Ads
Say you have a skyscraper in your sidebar or a leaderboard at the bottom of the page. It may exhibit a very poor CTR because it’s so out of sight and visitors often tend to miss the ad unit completely.
In that case, an alternative is to use Image Only Ads for that using – Image ads are generally CPM ads so you will generate revenue each time the ad makes an impression. Image ads are also effective in places where the visitors are Adsense publishers themselves and less likely to be interested in clicking your ads.
Use Google Adsense Sandbox to see image and Flash ads that are likely to appear on your web pages for visitors from different countries across the world.
2. Harness the Comments Section of Your Blog
When people read a blog, they’ll will first read / scan the main article and then they’ll jump to the comments section.
If they have a question or need more information about the product / service mentioned in the blog post, they’ll either leave a comment or will leave the site search for more resources.
That’s why an ad unit placed in the comment section would immensely help. The visitor is in a mood to search for extra information and the Adsense unit in the comments could have an ad for a product that might appeal to the visitor. The best place for place an ad unit their is immediately under the comment textarea box.
3. Don’t Use Adsense At All
Some Adsense publishers are shy of placing ads in prominent and visible locations on their site thinking that that ads might turn away visitors. So they will put ads in some corner hoping that visitors will still find them.
Think from the perspective of Adwords advertisers who are renting space on your blog with the hope of getting prospective customers. Why would they be willing to invest in your site (by buying ads) when they are not getting the expected returns. If you want advertisers to bid on your site, it is advisable that you place ads above the page fold else don’t use Adsene at all.
4. Sell Your Website to Adsense Advertisers using Channels
You can use Adsense channels to convince potential advertisers as to why they should advertise on your site.
When you create a custom channel in Adsense, edit the channel settings and allow Targeting. Then type a marketing pitch – tell your advertisers about your site, where the ads will appear and why should they advertise on your site. Believe me, this works.
5. When Nothing Works, Put One at the Top
Thanks to tabbed browsers like Firefox, IE or Opera – a horizontal ad unit placed at the top of your web page can perform quite well because visitors often notice the areas near the browser tabs.
Whether they are planning to exit your web page by pushing the close button of the current tab or cycling to another browser tab, chances are high that your ad near the tab bar will get noticed. See implementations at Statcounter and Digital Point forums.
6. Avoid Using Common Blog Words
As far as possible, do not use the common jargon like “feeds”, “RSS”, “blog”, “XML”, etc as that might result in RSS and blog related ads even when your website belongs to a different niche.
You can again use section targeting to suggest Adsense bots to ignore the blocks of text that have irrelevant words.
7. Pick Only High Paying Adsense Referrals
Adsense for Referrals can be a good source of revenue if you spend some time picking the best products that may be relevant to your audience. For instance, I pick products related to Software, Video and Internet for this blog and allow Adsense to pick the best product automatically.
Adsense referral payments can vary from few cents to couple of dollars. For example, a newsletter signup may fetch you 5 cents while if someone signs up for Lulu, you may get $10.
I recommend using referral products that give a high return – the conversion ratio may be low but the since the gain per conversion is very high, you will have more revenue overall. One conversion for a high paying referral is much better than several small referrals put together. You can also considering highlighting referrals with a custom FONT tag.

How can I get Google Adsense income?
As you probably already know, AdSense is revolutionizing the way many infopreneurs are creating revenue from their web site traffic. The reason for this is its simplicity. Through AdSense, revenue is generated when someone simply clicks thru the AdSense ads displayed on the webmasters web site.
In this article I want to give you a few simple ways to dramatically increase your AdSense income.
The bottom line:
To increase AdSense income all you must do is increase the number of click thrus you receive.
There are two ways for you to increase your total number of click thrus. You can either increase your website traffic or you can increase your AdSense click thru rate. Now, getting more traffic would be great, but let’s be honest increasing your web site traffic is much easier said than done. So, let’s focus on increasing your AdSense click thru rate instead.
4 Tips to Increase Click Thru:
Match your AdSense to your website:
You want your AdSense ads to appear as seamless as possible. Your goal is to match every aspect of your AdSense ads to the theme of your website. What you want to do is remove the borders from your AdSense ads and match the background color of the ad to your website. Additionally, you want to match the color of the AdSense links to the rest of the links on your website plus choose an ad format that makes the ads look seamless.
For example, if your web site has a white background and the default color of your hypertext links is blue you will want to remove the border from your AdSense, make the background white, choose either a square or a rectangle as your ad format instead of a skyscraper or banner, and yep you guessed it… make the links blue.
Placement Matters:
Where you place your AdSense ads is just as important as how they look. Luckily, there are only a few concepts that you need to worry about in order to increase your click through rate.
•The more white space around your ads the better•The closer to the top of the page the better•The closer the left of the page the better
Follow these concepts and I can assure you that you will see an increase in your AdSense click thru rate. (It really is that simply!)
Google Search:
Now this is one that I rarely see webmasters take advantage of. The Google AdSense program gives webmasters the ability to add a Google search box to there web site.
Why should you use this function?
Well, when a website visitor chooses to use this search box from your website your AdSense ID will be imbedded in ALL of that visitors Google searches. If that person does 1 search or 50 your AdSense ID will still be imbedded throughout process.
Why is this so great?
If that visitor clicks on any of the sponsored listings while surfing from your web site guess who makes money. YOU! If they hit the back button and click on another ad guess who makes money? YOU! This is absolutely huge. Through this function you now have the ability to earn multiple click thrus from the same visitor on the site visit. Please don’t overlook how powerful this is. Besides, most of your website traffic will just be browsing anyway, so I why help them find what there looking for and make a little coin along the way?
Tracking:
Just like any other type of marketing, you won’t know what’s working the best for you on your web site unless you track the different things that you’re experimenting with. Set up a few Google AdSense channels for the different ads that you’ll be placing on your website. Then just see which channels are working the best and stick to those.
That’s it!
Follow the tips above and I can assure you that you will absolutely double your AdSense click thru rate and your AdSense income. The best part about the four tips I’ve shared here is that you can put them into action immediately and see how they will work on your website right now. Who knows… you could be making twice as much by tomorrow by just making a few simple tweaks here and there.
Good Luck!
If you don’t know where to start and you want to check out how I’ve incorporated the above ideas into of my website you can check it out below:

New Adsense Ads Click to Display Google Search Results
I am spotting new Google Adsense units on our site and few other blogs. A bordered 300×250 px ad unit which has multiple links and a Google search box with no signs of Ads by Google!
The ad has 8 links in total, which will generate better income if each link is paying on a pay-per-click basis. These links are labeled with a title of “Popular Hobbies in India”. So it is definitely geo-targeted to my country and Popular Hobbies is a good general term to get everyone interested.
Note that all links start with “How to” article, a surefire headline idea that works and is often advocated by copywriters, as it signifies solid and useful information, which encourages the reader to click the link to read more about the topic.
Below it is a big Google Search box, which encourages users to search more if they do not like the suggested links. The Google logo is also branded “Google India”, further proof of geo-targeting to the visitors interests. The ad has a border to avoid any confusion with the site content and club all the ad content together.
So where do all these results click to? To a series of Google search results for the terms which provides useful information, and is loaded with more Adsense ads! Is this an ad for Google Search?
Maybe they are testing the new ad unit which resembles Google gadget ads or interactive widget ads which were noticed earlier. Google likes to keep testing new ad units like ads with favicons, no titles, titles in italics and no “Ads by Google” and interactive keywords, 2×2 units, multiple fonts etc. Do you like this ad unit idea?

Google AdSense ads with other Alliance What is the difference?
SAN FRANCISCO - FRESH from a failed courtship with Microsoft, Yahoo on Thursday rushed into Google's arms in the hope an alliance will improve its sagging fortunes and quell a rebellion by stockholders.
Yahoo and Google announced a deal to put the Internet search king's expertise to work pumping money from advertising posted next to Yahoo Internet search results.
Google and Yahoo began discussing an alliance in early February, shortly after Microsoft offered to buy Yahoo, said Google chief executive Eric Schmidt.
'The most entertaining conversations were those that took place in buildings that Yahoo owns in unknown and unfindable locations,' Mr Schmidt said during a conference call with analysts and reporters.
Google co-founder Larry Page and other executives arrived on bicycles for clandestine meetings in covert locations, Mr Schmidt added.
He said it was during the past few weeks that he and Yahoo chief executive Jerry Yang had 'serious conversations' and teams spent sleepless nights pulling together a deal inked on Thursday.
Google co-founder Serge Brin said it is 'very exciting' to be working with Yahoo and its founders David Filo and Yang, whose time as students at Stanford University overlapped that of Mr Brin and Mr Page.
'We share quite a history and culture,' Mr Brin said. 'It was David Filo and Jerry Yang that encouraged us to start a company that, in turn, became Google.' Mr Brin said a priority is ensuring that Yahoo remains 'a strong independent company'.
Yahoo hopes the alliance will appease stockholders angry that board members rejected Microsoft's bid, which offered an attractive premium on the market value.
Billionaire corporate raider Carl Icahn has been amassing Yahoo shares in a campaign to overthrow the Yahoo board for rejecting a Microsoft takeover.
'This agreement provides a source of funds to both deliver financial value to stockholders from search monetisation and to invest in our broader strategy,' said Yahoo president Sue Decker said.
The deal gives Yahoo 'the opportunity to deliver more relevant ads to users and provide advertisers and publishers with better advertising technology to help them succeed', Mr Schmidt said.
'This agreement will preserve the competitive and dynamic online advertising space.'
The deal also breaks down the wall between free instant messaging services offered by Yahoo and Google, meaning users of either service will be able to chat online with each other in a way not possible before.
The alliance focuses on text ads posted alongside Yahoo online search results but has the potential to expand to include display advertising.
The deal is limited to Yahoo web properties in the United States and Canada, but Google said there is potential to extend it to other parts of the world.
In a move evidently crafted to address anticipated anti-trust concerns, the agreement frees Yahoo to also display paid search results from other third parties and its own Panama ad platform.
While searching for a 'white knight' to save it from Microsoft's clutches, Yahoo tested using Google's AdSense for Search service for two weeks in April.
Microsoft offered to buy Yahoo for US$44.6 billion (S$61.6 billion) in stock and cash on Jan 31, but withdrew the offer on May 3, saying Yahoo refused to budge despite the software giant upping its bid to nearly 50 billion dollars.
The test showed that Google's methods generated more money than Yahoo's advertising platform.
Microsoft was enraged by the experiment and warned that a Yahoo-Google partnership raises anti-trust concerns because it would cover some 90 per cent of online advertising.
Microsoft has significantly ramped up its representation with US legislators and will fiercely fight an alliance by the top two players in the Internet search advertising market, according to Silicon Valley analyst Rob Enderle.
'They believe if Yahoo and Google do this, they can let loose the dogs of antitrust war on Google,' Mr Enderle said.
Google general counsel Kent Walker said the deal requires no regulatory approval but that the company will discuss it with regulators because it is so 'high profile'. -- AFP

Can I have AdSense and other Ads on my site simultaneously?
I've been reading your book Growing Your Business on Google but you did not answer one question I have. Is it kosher to present Google ads on your site AND present ads from Yahoo or anyone else? Do they insist on exclusivity or can you mix and match?
window.google_render_ad();
Dave's Answer:
You can present ads from both Google (via its AdSense program) and other ad networks on the same Web pages, but there's a very important nuance: you can't have any automatic contextual advertising on the same page.
Let me explain what I mean by contextual ads, however, to clarify this point.
The coolest thing about AdSense is that all you have to do is include their code snippet on your Web page and Google's engine automatically figures out what your page is about and shows the most contextually relevant advertising they can serve up. If you have a dozen pages about a dozen different topics, then you'll find that the ads just magically are always tailored to each page's topic.
Google calls this "content-targeted advertising" and the AdSense terms of service explicitly prohibit you from including any other content-targeted advertising on your pages:
"... You further agree not to display on any Serviced Page any non-Google content-targeted advertisement(s)..."
Fortunately, there are legit and safe ways to sidestep this limitation, though they're not as flexible as AdSense itself. For example, with the new Chitika MiniMall advertising, you can specify a canned set of keywords for the advert to be included as you copy and paste their code onto your page: arguably that's more accurate than letting a program guess what your page is about anyway, but it is acceptable as an additional advert. (See my article Where can I buy a Sony PSP USB cable? for an example of a page with both AdSense and a Chitika advert).
You can also include banner ads (like the BlogAds network) or other advertising. It's all acceptable to the Google team, as long as the other advertising system doesn't automatically scan your page and ascertain the best ads to display on-the-fly.
If you'd like to learn more about AdSense, I suggest you start at my popular tutorial Get Started with Google AdSense.

About Google Scholar
What is Google Scholar?
Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature. From one place, you can search across many disciplines and sources: peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts and articles, from academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories, universities and other scholarly organizations. Google Scholar helps you identify the most relevant research across the world of scholarly research.
Features of Google Scholar
Search diverse sources from one convenient place
Find papers, abstracts and citations
Locate the complete paper through your library or on the web
Learn about key papers in any area of research
How are articles ranked?
Google Scholar aims to sort articles the way researchers do, weighing the full text of each article, the author, the publication in which the article appears, and how often the piece has been cited in other scholarly literature. The most relevant results will always appear on the first page.
A note from the Google Scholar team

We believe everyone should have a chance to stand on the shoulders of giants.

Disturbing Facts About Google
Google are clearly gathering information about us but refuse to tell us why. It's nothing new to us, but while they cannot control normal SERPs, they do however control who is viewing what and when.
We run Google adverts in order to survive. Does this mean we shouldn't share the information below? If you know an alternative way to sustain costs please get in touch.
1. Google's immortal cookie:
Google was the first search engine to use a cookie that expires in 2038. This was at a time when federal websites were prohibited from using persistent cookies altogether. Now it's years later, and immortal cookies are commonplace among search engines ; Google set the standard because no one bothered to challenge them. This cookie places a unique ID number on your hard disk. Anytime you land on a Google page, you get a Google cookie if you don't already have one. If you have one, they read and record your unique ID number.
2. Google records everything they can:
For all searches they record the cookie ID, your Internet IP address, the time and date, your search terms, and your browser configuration. Increasingly, Google is customizing results based on your IP number. This is referred to in the industry as "IP delivery based on geolocation."
3. Google retains all data indefinitely:
Google has no data retention policies. There is evidence that they are able to easily access all the user information they collect and save.
4. Google won't say why they need this data:
Inquiries to Google about their privacy policies are ignored. When the New York Times (2002-11-28) asked Sergey Brin about whether Google ever gets subpoenaed for this information, he had no comment.
5. Google hires spooks:
Matt Cutts, a key Google engineer, used to work for the National Security Agency. Google wants to hire more people with security clearances, so that they can peddle their corporate assets to the spooks in Washington.
6. Google's toolbar is spyware:
With the advanced features enabled, Google's free toolbar for Explorer phones home with every page you surf, and yes, it reads your cookie too. Their privacy policy confesses this, but that's only because Alexa lost a class-action lawsuit when their toolbar did the same thing, and their privacy policy failed to explain this. Worse yet, Google's toolbar updates to new versions quietly, and without asking. This means that if you have the toolbar installed, Google essentially has complete access to your hard disk every time you connect to Google (which is many times a day). Most software vendors, and even Microsoft, ask if you'd like an updated version. But not Google. Any software that updates automatically presents a massive security risk.
7. Google's cache copy is illegal:
Judging from Ninth Circuit precedent on the application of U.S. copyright laws to the Internet, Google's cache copy appears to be illegal. The only way a webmaster can avoid having his site cached on Google is to put a "noarchive" meta in the header of every page on his site. Surfers like the cache, but webmasters don't. Many webmasters have deleted questionable material from their sites, only to discover later that the problem pages live merrily on in Google's cache. The cache copy should be "opt-in" for webmasters, not "opt-out."
8. Google is not your friend:
By now Google enjoys a 75 percent monopoly for all external referrals to most websites. Webmasters cannot avoid seeking Google's approval these days, assuming they want to increase traffic to their site. If they try to take advantage of some of the known weaknesses in Google's semi-secret algorithms, they may find themselves penalized by Google, and their traffic disappears. There are no detailed, published standards issued by Google, and there is no appeal process for penalized sites. Google is completely unaccountable. Most of the time Google doesn't even answer email from webmasters.
9. Google is a privacy time bomb:
With 200 million searches per day, most from outside the U.S., Google amounts to a privacy disaster waiting to happen. Those newly-commissioned data-mining bureaucrats in Washington can only dream about the sort of slick efficiency that Google has already achieved.

AdSense Expandable Ads For Increased Interaction
Has anyone seen expandable ads on their sites?
Expandable ads are
- rich media media ads that can expand beyond the original size of the ad unit - priced on a cost-per-click (CPC) or cost-per-impression (CPM) basis - available only if you are located in North America or Europe; added the AdSense code directly into your site's source code; and enabled image ads
I look forward to seeing how this will actually work, and more importantly contribute to the bottomline

Google Checkout Fees Now Identical to PayPal
Google Checkout will increase their fees to the EXACT same structure as PayPal, beginning May 5, 2009:
http://checkout.google.com/seller/fees.html
for reference, here are PayPal's fees:
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-receiving-fees-outside&countries=
Interestingly, since PayPal offers an eCheck option, limited to $5 per transaction, max, customers spending over about $250 by eCheck make PayPal the cheaper option for the vendor.
And the Google-waived fees for related AdWords spends are now totally gone.

Google to Make AdSense Ads More "Interesting"
We think we can make online advertising even more relevant and useful by using additional information about the websites people visit. Today we are launching "interest-based" advertising as a beta test on our partner sites and on YouTube. These ads will associate categories of interest ?say sports, gardening, cars, pets ?with your browser, based on the types of sites you visit and the pages you view. We may then use those interest categories to show you more relevant text and display ads.
Mozilla Contemplates a Future Without Google
Google also shows up all over the balance sheet of Mozilla, creator of the Firefox browser and other software. Under an agreement between the two, Google's search engine enjoys a default position on the toolbar of Firefox, the second-most-used Web browser after Microsoft's (MSFT) Internet Explorer. (...) How much longer this pairing can last has been called into question since September, when Google introduced its own Web browser, Chrome. The prospect that Google may not re-up the three-year contract set to expire in 2011 has Mozilla considering other search partnerships and ways to generate revenue."

Google Adsense: When Do I Get Paid Using Google Adsense?
Google Adsense pays you approximately 30 days after the end of the month in which you become eligible to receive payment. You become eligible for payment only when your Adsense account reaches at least $100.00. Suppose, for example, you started in January and at the end of the month you had not yet accumulated $100.00 in your Google Adsense account. You would then need to wait and see if your January and February earnings combined equal $100.00. If they do, you would be paid approximately 30 days after the end of the month of February, that is, you could expect payment near the end of March.
Another good reason to also use Adsense for Search is that you get to combine the earnings to reach the $100.00 payout minimum. So if your earnings for Adsense for Content do not reach $100.00 in time for the current payout, but when combined with your Adsense for Search earnings they do meet the payout minimum, you will be paid accordingly.

Website Navigation, Bottom Navigation, & SEO
So, are you all set on your navigation? Top, left, both? Maybe even right (against my better judgement). And do you have the navigation links all mapped out? Home, about, services, contact, products, blog, etc. Well then, you are almost done…almost.
Navigation does play a part in your search engine optimization efforts. The search engines do check the navigation. They like to see where the tabs point, how to find your pages, what pages are top-level, etc. However, if you design the navigation tabs as images, then you may run into a problem.
I understand. You want your navigation tabs to be pretty, artsy, cool. I get it. You don’t want to use some basic font and same old boring tabs. I feel your pain. However, here’s the deal. If your navigation tabs are images and not html, then the search engine bots won’t see them.
First, let me mention the fact that there are some very fancy websites out on the world wide web that have html navigation tabs that look as pretty as image navigation tabs. They are so good you may not have even noticed. HTML has come a long way, baby. You can have nice looking navigation without using image design.
But if you are still not convince or not that talented with html, you are not sunk yet. Go ahead and design you navigation any way you want. There is a fix for this issue.
After you are done designing your navigation, you are going to need to add html text navigation to the bottom of your web pages. I’m sure you’ve seen this before. Links at the bottom of the website that repeat the top or side navigation. The reason you need to add this navigation at the bottom is so that there will be navigation for the search engine spiders to see. They won’t see the image navigation so present them with html navigation at the bottom. They can work with this.
One thing is very important. Make sure you include ALL of your navigation at the bottom of the page. Don’t forget any. The spiders want to see your pages just as much as the users. So don’t forget anything.
Also, in the rare case that images have difficulty loading for some unforeseen reason, the user will have the backup navigation at the bottom of your website in order to find your pages. Good for the user and the search engines.
So, if you’re not afraid of html, us it to design your navigation. If you are afraid of html, design your tabs the way you want, but include regular html navigation at the bottom of your web pages.

Mapping Out Your Website for SEO Keywords
Remember way back when we discussed Information Architecture (IA)? I told you this would be the road map for your web site. I told you it was going to be important for SEO. Here is why.
You are now going to choose which pages on your web site (using your IA) are going to be optimized for which keywords. However, I want to make one quick suggestion before you start…
Take your newly formed keyword list and Group your keywords into themes. For example if you sell team sports jerseys, you can break your keywords down by sports…
Baseball jerseys, custom baseball jerseys, baseball jersey store
Eagles Football jerseys, official NFL football jersey
German soccer jerseys, soccer jerseys France.
So when you decide you want to have a page just for football jerseys, you can optimize that web page for your football jersey keywords. Use your IA as guide to creating web pages and the keywords to use for optimization.
Once you have this all planned (mapped out) you can then decide on things like page names, content, and tags. More to come on that… Go Eagles!
